St. Marks is privileged to serve more than 400 students in our religious education programs.  We provide catechesis to nurture the children and youth as they grow in their friendship with Jesus.  Our Religious Education programs of study are for children and youth whose academic school curriculum does not include the teachings of the Roman Catholic Tradition.  We focus on fostering their relationship with Jesus Christ and introducing them to the God that loves them.  We use materials that are approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops that address topics that include but are not limited to: Catholic doctrine, Mass and prayer, moral formation, Catholic social teaching and scripture utilizing the traditions and rich history of our Catholic faith preparing them for an active life in a secular society.

We offer two options for formal Religious Education here at the parish.  First, is our in class option for Kindergarten through 8th grade.  This option consists of a classroom setting with a volunteer catechist (and often an aide) who uses the Harcourt Religion Call to Faith series for the doctrine based catechesis.  Classes participate in various prayer experiences, church tours and social justice opportunities that are grade level appropriate to help nurture the Church’s Mission.

Second is our Family Home Study program that is offered for Grades 1 through 8.  This option is family based with parents usually taking on the role of catechist.  Often grandparents or neighbors combine to assist in making this type of religious education a community responsibility.  This program requires families to attend 4 gatherings on the St. Mark campus throughout the year.  Students are required to turn in Unit Reviews on a regular basis with completion of the book by June 30, 2012.
